Bill Cosby, There's Always Room In J-A-I-L-O

It's been a week since my last post (I'm going to try harder to bring that number up). So today, I'm combining three posts into one.  Here goes:

Bill Cosby, There's Always Room In J-A-I-L-O

I really want to slam Bill Cosby, because it's looking more and more like he is/has been a serial molester.  I'm not going to say serial rapist just yet, because of a disturbing thread that appears to run through the allegations offered by some of the accusers. But in newly released court documents, Cosby, in a sworn deposition, admits to scoring Quaaludes for the purpose of giving them to young women that he wanted to have sex with.  Cosby now says that he didn't understand the judge's use of the word "women", thinking that she meant "woman" instead.  He admits to acquiring seven prescriptions for the drug, with the intent to give them to women that he wanted to have sex with, but he has not admitted to actually drugging any of them.

What I find disturbing about the alleged incidents as told by some of Cosby's accusers, actually centers around the Quaaludes. Lawyers for Cosby have mentioned two women (naming one) who they say knowingly took the drug from Cosby. In a CNN.com article, several other women are named who say that Cosby gave them capsules or pills, sometimes "billing it as medication--before assaulting them."  There are other women however, who say that Cosby slipped the drug into their drink, meaning that they were unaware that they were taking the drug. To be drugged without one's knowledge is one thing, but since when is it okay to take Quaaludes from man, while you are presumably alone with him? I was taught that you don't even leave your drink unsupervised when out on a date. Maybe they weren't raised that way, or maybe they were awestruck by Cosby's star power.

It's not called star power for nothing. Apparently, the power of celebrity is so great that it can cause people (in this case women), to forget about being cautious.  It apparently erased any knowledge of Bill Cosby's legendary reputation as a Lothario and permanent fixture at the Playboy Clubs--in the 60s, 70s an 80s! And no, this is not about blaming the victim, but I suspect that if we weren't talking about Bill Cosby, but instead, an ordinary Joe, the general consensus would be that some of these women should have known better.  But, we are talking about Bill Cosby, and if the allegations of rape are proven--or admitted to, he, like an ordinary Joe, belongs behind bars.

Russell Wilson Is In the Spotlight, But the Light Is In Him

The NFL has had its share of bumps and bruises in recent years, most notably with players having issues of domestic violence, child abuse and a charge of murder, not to mention the growing controversy over concussions. However, despite the dark clouds that have been hovering over the league, there are also several brights lights among the player ranks. When it comes to players of outstanding character, both on and off the field, guys like Tim Tebow, Drew Brees and Charles Tillman immediately come to mind.

Russell Wilson is another player that the NFL would do well to build a public relations campaign around.  I've really liked Wilson from the first time I saw him.  He has a quiet assuredness and humbleness that is not very common in a profession where there's no shortage of testosterone or ego. I watched the following video and learned that not only is Russell Wilson a guy that connects well with people on a very real and personal level, he's very open about his life.  He's quick to talk about his trials and shortcomings, but also where he gets his strength.

Wilson is a devout Christian.  He's sexually abstinent. He's a celebrity. Yet, he's extraordinarily relatable.  I really like this guy.  And I have a feeling that his football career won't be his most significant contribution.
