• Thinking about my post on the proposed boycott of the Academy Awards, I should have mentioned actress Sharon Stone as someone that was robbed of an Oscar.  She most certainly should have won for her role as Ginger in the movie Casino (1995), because she was truly outstanding!  Well, at least she was nominated.

• I've read several articles about the Academy Awards proposed boycott, and I keep seeing this statement, or something very similar:  "Hollywood is a very liberal place.  The idea that it's racist is ridiculous."  The idea that someone would actually say that is ridiculous.

Boycotting the Oscars? It's Real Drama Now

Actress Jada Pinkett Smith recently announced that she will be boycotting this year's Academy Awards ceremony.  She, along with Spike Lee say that they are fed up with the Hollywood's failure to recognize the contributions of black actors. They are calling for other black actors to follow suit and sit out this year's ceremony.  This is nothing new for Spike, he has long been very vocal about this issue.  As for Jada, perhaps she decided that she too has had enough, especially after husband, Will Smith, was not nominated for an Oscar for his turn in the movie Concussion.  Will Smith, in years past was a major box office draw.  He's very likeable.  But let's face it, he's not a great actor. I was looking at his filmography, and there have only been a couple of times that he could have seriously been considered for an Oscar. One was for his performance in Six Degrees of Separation and the other was for The Pursuit of  Happyness. He was very good in both.

Finally, An Actress Owns Up to Self-Exploitation...Objectification

When actress Bo Derek was in her heyday during in the late 70s and early 80s, she wasn't exactly recognized for great acting abilities. Bo was sexy, and she made the kind of career choices that generated more interest in and appreciation for her physical attributes than her acting talents. Beginning with the movie 10, where she played a newlywed in an open marriage, the image of Bo running along the beach in a swimsuit, established her as bona fide sex symbol.  She went on to act in a few other films, including an X-rated feature, made guest appearances on tv and posed twice for Playboy.
